Jon and Jean Gear

Jon passed away June 8, 2016. He was married to Ruth Suggs, CHS class of ’58, for forty-four years. Ruth passed away May 15, 2004. They had four children and eight grandchildren.
Jon married Jean Little Gaylor, a fellow classmate. They were married eleven years. Jon and Jean enjoyed traveling, especially cruises. His hobby was singing, both with karaoke and the guitar.
Jon worked for Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO) both in Dallas and in Alaska, as business manager. After retiring from ARCO he became Executive Director for the Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies (COPAS) for ten years. He retired from there in 2004. Jon was very active in his church and served as an elder for many years.
Jon received many awards and honors throughout his career. On October 30, 2017, over a year after his death, Jean received a beautiful plaque honoring Jon as one of only four people to be recognized in the Circle of Honor in COPAS. Jon was a kind, thoughtful, Christian man and was loved by all those who knew him. His greatest pleasure was in doing something for others.
Jean: “God blessed me when he brought Jon into my life.”
