Jimmy passed away on January 6, 2020. He attended Texas Christian University (TCU) on a football scholarship where he played tight end for the Horned Frogs. While playing at TCU, the Horned Frogs won the Southwest Conference title once and shared the title a second year. Jim played with TCU in the Cotton Bowl in 1959 joined by teammate Bob Lilly. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Science. He married Judie Collard in December 1960. They had two sons and one daughter.
After graduating college, Jim took his first coaching job in Round Rock, Texas, then moved to Garland in the mid 1960’s, where he had a prominent career as a Texas high school football coach.
In 1984, Jim began working as a scout for the Dallas Cowboys. He spent 27 years with the Cowboys organization in both college scouting and pro scouting roles. He was a part of the three Super Bowls won by the Cowboys during the 1990’s. In 2011, Jim retired from the Cowboys to take care of his wife, Judie, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease. He spent the last nine years of his life taking care of Judie and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His marriage and family meant everything to Jim!
Jim was more than just a football coach. He was considered a second father to the many kids he came in contact with throughout his almost 82 years of life. Jim’s relationship with Jesus Christ was his number one priority.
