It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a valued member of the Cooperative community and Victoria Electric Cooperative Board President, Donald K. Wehmeyer. For 35 years, Don served as a member of our Board of Directors. In 2008 he began his tenure as board President always driven by our mission and dedicated to the needs of our Members.

Don’s tenure as President is memorialized by many monumental moments for Victoria Electric Cooperative including the construction and transition into our new headquarters building and most recently our expansion into the broadband internet business with Infinium broadband. While his cooperative roots began at Victoria Electric Cooperative, his contributions span across South Texas serving on the Board of Directors for South Texas Electric Cooperative for 16 years and San Miguel Electric Cooperative for 14 years holding the position of president from 2017-2020.

Dedicated to improving the quality of life for rural residents and communities, Don also served on the Farmer’s Service Agency board where farmers and ranchers work together to ensure fair and equitable administration that help shape the agricultural community. Prior to pursuing a career in the family business of farming, Don was a teacher, coach, and mentor to the youth within the community. Although he retired the title of teacher, he remained mentoring youth through his active role in C.A.S.A.

It will be difficult turning the page knowing Don’s presence will not be in the next chapter for Victoria Electric Cooperative but his legacy can be seen through the many initiatives he spearheaded and supported while a member of the Cooperative community. Don’s strength, determination and leadership will be deeply missed but his commitment, character and signature cowboy hat will remain in our hearts and minds as we move forward.
