Gene Garner
This information was taken from the obituary:
After a long and varied career that included a 15-year enlistment in the Texas National Guard, service that was especially important to him, Gene Dale Garner left his earthly life for his final sojourn on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007.
Throughout his life Gene experienced many twists and turns, numerous good and a few difficult, but, he maintained a strong sense of responsibility and dedication to his work, and for the past 26 years, to Nancy McCool Garner, his wife and helpmate.
Gene’s working career included Central Power and Light, Port Lavaca, when he was just out of high school; Union Carbide, which included being a safety and Red Cross instructor; and a law enforcement career, which he especially enjoyed with U.S. Customs, and previous to that with the U.S. Border Patrol, Texas Game Warden Service, and as a Calhoun County constable. He was at times a volunteer fireman and cattle rancher and loved the outdoors along with all it entailed. Following his retirement, his passions were cattle ranching and travel, both of which he was forced to give up to his hard fought battle with cancer.
